Hamburger Steak and Gravy

Ingredients

1 pound ground beef
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon minced onion
1/2 cup quick-cooking oats
1/4 cup flour
2 tablespoons oil
1 package onion soup mix
1 small onion (peeled and chopped)
3 1/2 cups water
4 ounce can mushroom pieces (drained)
Flour leftover from dredging steaks.
½ pound ground beef
½ egg (beat one egg and use half)
¼ teaspoon salt
teaspoon black pepper
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon minced onion
¼ cup quick-cooking oats
2 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon oil
½ package onion soup mix
½ small onion (peeled and chopped)
1¾ cups water
2 ounces of mushroom pieces (1/2 of a 4 ounce can)
Flour leftover from dredging steaks (use half of what remains.)

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl combine ground beef, egg, salt, pepper, garlic powder, minced onion, oats. (I mix this up with my hands)  Make into about 4 hamburger steaks and dredge in the 1/4 cup flour. Heat oil in skillet and brown steaks on both sides.  Remove to a plate. Make gravy.

If you are following the directions for 2 you will only make 2 hamburger steaks.

Gravy Instructions

Add the gravy "fixins" to your skillet, bring to a boil, stirring to mix well. Add steaks back to the skillet, turn heat to simmer and let cook about 30 to 35 minutes on low heat.
